AKC Scent Work
AKC Scent Work is a fun and rewarding sport that allows dogs to use one of their greatest natural abilities—their sense of smell.
Inspired by the work of professional detection dogs, Scent Work teaches dogs to search for specific odors hidden in different environments. The dog learns to locate the scent and communicate to the handler when the odor has been found.
Dogs can search containers, interior rooms, outdoor areas, buried hides, and vehicles. As teams progress through the different levels of competition, searches become increasingly challenging.
One of the wonderful things about Scent Work is that almost any dog can participate. Dogs of different breeds, ages, sizes, and experience levels can enjoy the sport. It builds confidence, provides excellent mental stimulation, and encourages dogs to work independently while strengthening communication and teamwork with their handlers.
Most importantly, dogs love using their noses. AKC Scent Work gives them an opportunity to do what comes naturally while having fun with their person.

EXPLORE SOMETHING NEW
Next Level Canine Academy also offers small-scale opportunities for dogs and handlers to explore additional activities and see what they enjoy together.
Barn Hunt
Barn Hunt is an exciting sport that celebrates a dog's natural ability to search, hunt, and work independently.
Inspired by the traditional role of dogs that helped control vermin around farms and barns, Barn Hunt challenges dogs to locate safely enclosed rats hidden among bales of hay or straw. The rats are always protected in secure, ventilated tubes and are carefully handled with their safety and well-being in mind.
During a search, dogs may climb onto bales, travel through tunnels, and use their noses to determine where the hidden rat is located. The handler learns to read the dog's body language and recognize the moment the dog says, “I found it!”
Dogs of many breeds, sizes, and ages can participate. Some dogs race through the course with enthusiasm, while others carefully investigate every scent. Each dog develops their own searching style.
Barn Hunt provides wonderful mental and physical exercise while building confidence and strengthening the partnership between dog and handler.
For many dogs, the greatest reward is simply being allowed to trust their instincts, follow their nose, and do what dogs have been doing for generations.
Intro to Dock Diving
Dock diving is an action-packed dog sport that combines running, jumping, swimming, and plenty of enthusiasm.
The excitement begins on a dock beside a pool of water. With encouragement from the handler—often using a favorite floating toy—the dog races down the dock, launches into the air, and splashes into the water.
Depending on the event, dogs may compete in challenges involving the distance of their jump, the height they can reach, or how quickly they can complete a swimming task.
Although some dogs seem like natural-born dock divers, the sport is not just for traditional water-loving breeds. Dogs of many breeds and sizes participate, and each dog can develop confidence at their own pace.
Dock diving provides exercise, builds confidence, and strengthens the relationship between dog and handler. For dogs that love water, the sport can feel less like competition and more like the greatest game they have ever played.
There is something special about watching a dog stand at the end of a dock, focus on that favorite toy, and then leap fearlessly into the air.
Run. Jump. Splash. And have fun!
